There was more than one double-take from drivers at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center parking lot a few weeks ago on a sunny morning. Automotive technology instructor Dave Jessup brought one of his personal projects — a 360-winged sprint car — to school to show his students. Then he fired it up in the parking lot.

There were a few more Porsches in the Miami Valley the first week of October, as the Porsche Club of America “escaped to the birthplace of aviation.”
The PCA has held parades for many years,” explained Escape organizer Kathie Hunter. “But parades are all about competition, auto cross, time-speed-distance rallies, judged car shows and concours, and they last a week. About five years ago, PCA came up with the idea of an Escape weekend, strictly social and fun.”

The car looked a bit out of place, with lots of hot rods and muscle cars on the scene, but the Corder brothers of Brookville continued to clean up and detail their 1934 Chrysler Airflow. “We haven’t had it out much this year; both of us have been pretty busy,” explained Dan Corder. “But this show in Englewood is always nice, so we got here early and found a good shady spot.”

This celebration of classic, antique and special-interest vehicles, both two- and four-wheeled, is a feast for the eyes. Thousands of car and motorcycle lovers came to the 65-acre park to enjoy almost 200 vehicles, each other and museum exhibits — including the museum’s own significant collection of permanently exhibited
vehicles — and demonstrations.
